Board of Health Minutes 11/5/12
MONTEREY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING MINUTES

Date:  November 5, 2012
Present:  John Makuc, Peter Kolodziej, Robert Annelli and Stephen Enoch
Also Present: Kim Kelly of BHS

The meeting began at 4pm

1.  Kim Kelly of Berkshire Health Services presented the free services available to communities like Monterey through the Community Outreach Program which included the following services (but were not limited to these services):
a.  The outreach program has its own traveling exam room (actually 2) within its large rv and can customize services needed in each community.
b.  Kim has been working closely with Cindy Croche, our VNA nurse to offer her additional services through BHS at our monthly clinics at the town hall.
c.  Kim noted that if there is a need for one particular service on a regular basis there are options available through BHS which she could provide more information on.
d.  Kim explained the services they provide to vulnerable populations and communities that are not as conveniently located to Fairview or BMC.
e.  Services available involve reviewing medications, BP numbers, cholesterol numbers, blood sugar numbers, screenings of all kinds, etc.
f.  We would also have the option to have a health fair which could focus on the services our community needs.
g.  Funding for her program comes from the health systems.
h.  She suggested piggy-backing on the COA events such as the Wii Senior Bowling nights.
i.  Kim explained that some of the programs and services offered are in conjunction with programs offered by your health insurance and she told of success stories that have actually lowered premiums.
j.  Every service is confidential and no information or insurance is necessary (with the exception of the biometrics screenings as those results are provided to your doctor).
k.  It was agreed that the Board needs to be more proactive in advertising the programs that are available and events being hosted in or near to Monterey.
l.  It was also suggested that the Board should look at renegotiating our contract with the VNA to offer more services than just the home visits and once a month BP clinics and how much more that would cost.
2.  Peter performed the re-inspection at the O’Connor property and all is set on the Board’s end.  A letter will be sent to Mr. O’Connor notifying him of this and making him aware that this he’ll still need approvals/sign off’s from the Building Commissioner.
3.  Discussions continued on the issues with Berkshire Enviro Labs.
4.  The next meeting is scheduled for November 19th.

The meeting adjourned at 5:20pm
